Like Hercules' second wife, Omphale, in the animated TV series it's revealed that Megara once hired Hercules to help her (whereas Omphale actually owned him) and began to develop romantic feelings for him, and in the film (like Omphale) Megara is Hercules' love interest during the 12 Labours, Megara's sense of independence also links her to Omphale. She shares her name with Hercules' first wife, the daughter of King Creon, Princess Megara (who was killed when Hera cursed Hercules), and like Princess Megara, Megara dies, although unlike her namesake. Megara is essentially a merge between all four of Hercules' wives in the mythology. ![]()

However, and on a purely personal level, I really cannot say that I like the accompanying illustrations all that much, as they are simply much too cartoon-like for my aesthetic tastes (working well enough in conjunction with the narrative, but not in any way magical or spectacular, just simply and basically adequate). Grace Lin's Dim Sum For Everyone is for all intents and purposes sweet and enlightening (and perhaps even quite engaging for the very young). ![]() ![]() That brought about the thought: “What would happen if you retreated into a book that you couldn’t then escape?
